What to expect at emPower Prayer Nights
emPower prayer nights provide an opportunity for Christians across the city of Sheffield to gather together to pray for several aspects of the life of our city through both informed and inspired prayer. These are powerful times in God’s presence. emPower nights are held quarterly in different churches across the city from 6.30 – 8.00pm.
Praise and worship is led by the emPower worship team which is drawn from several churches in the city. The sense of God’s presence is felt as we enter His gates with thanksgiving, His courts with praise and worship The King in the beauty of holiness.
The prayer sessions are also led by different people from different churches across the city. We acknowledge and honour a spectrum of different styles of prayer as we stand in the gap in prayer and intercession on behalf of our communities, the city, nation and leaders. We pray in small groups, out loud Acts 4 style, in quiet and reflective prayer, using prayer stations, listening and many more styles.
We have given thanks and prayed for: Education, Health, Businesses, Families, Revival, Media, etc. We have celebrated answers to our prayers. It is always such a joy to see Christians from different church streams and denominations coming together on the basis of WHO and what unites us. We know this pleases our heavenly Father too.↑ Back to Top

How it all began
emPower started life in 2007 as the Joint Churches Half Nights of Prayer. A small group of churches in relationship with one another began meeting once a term back then for Half Nights of Prayer from 8.00 pm to midnight. This was in response to a vision for inter-church fellowship between Victory Assembly, St Thomas’ Church Philadelphia, St Thomas’ Church Crookes and The King’s Centre. Rock Christian Centre soon joined.
These nights were characterised by praise and worship, prayer and intercession, listening to God, sharing fellowship and learning from each other as we prayed for our individual churches, the city, the wider Church in the city, national and international events.
Four years later, towards the end of 2011, the leadership felt a sense from God that these nights should be made more accessible to Christians from across the city, inspiring and enabling more Christians to come together to pray, to see our beloved Sheffield transformed by God in answer to our corporate prayer. From this, emPower in its current format was born. The first emPower meeting took place on 30th March 2012 at the Rock Christian Centre.↑ Back to Top
